Formatt Hitech’s new UV filters with Firecrest coating are the single most effective tool available for eliminating UV contamination and increasing contrast and acuity in your images, while also providing protection for the front element of your valuable lenses. This 400nm UV filter offers the maximum UV protection available. The 400nm UV reduction is ideal in high altitudes and snow but due to it's strength of filtration may cause an unwanted color cast when used outside these applications. The 400nm is the choice of top professionals. Firecrest UV’s feature our exclusive Firecrest multicoating, that is both anti-reflective and hydrophobic, coated to broadcast quality glass in the thinnest rings on the market and are available in threaded round filter sizes 52mm, 58mm, 72mm, 77mm, and 82mm.
The UltraSlim aluminum alloy filter ring measures 4.5mm-thick and its slim design helps to minimize the likelihood of vignetting. This filter does not feature front threads in order to maintain the thinnest design possible for enhanced use on wide-angle lenses.

I bought this filter to protect the from element of an Ultra Wide Angle zoom lens. Its impressive UV protection is not necessary for modern digital cameras. Nonetheless, the great optical quality of Schott glass came as a great bargain due to a clearance sale. I did not notice any color shift, despite a warning to that effect. Ultraslim design ensures no vignetting, but lacks a front thread, making a standard lens cap unusable. My other complaint about this and other Formatt circular filters is their Aluminum rings. They can stick when stacked, or if threaded too tight onto a lens.
